Well it's been a total whirlwind for about a month! I was in Italy with my buddy, Denise, taking a class with Lucio Bubacco in mid-September. This was a FANTASTIC trip, all things glass and totally fab. I told Ricky that he must know I love him. I came back! :)
Anyway, I came home running to put together Country in the City on October 2nd at the downtown branch of the Ypsilanti District Library, which I manage. It was very successful with 615 extra folks walking through our building, enjoying the petting farm, pony rides, face painting, balloon animals, beeswax candle dipping, Indian corn necklace making, apple spiral making, and butter churning. Did the same thing at the Belleville Area District Library on October 9th, with at least 550 kids showing up. It was very cool to see kids who had never experienced country life doing country activities. Without a slew of volunteers, neither of these events could happen.
The next day was Bead Bonanza when Denise, Kathleen and I (the Fire Foxes) were setup selling our glass beads, jewelry and miscellaneous. Yesterday was the West Michigan Glass show in Grand Rapids and now there are a few weeks without a major glass event or children's event!
However...slowing down is not an option! The Belleville Area District Library has a .07 operating millage on the Nov 2nd ballot in Van Buren Township, Belleville and Sumpter Township. And I am also on the ballot as library trustee. For an FAQ on the Belleville Area District Library millage, go to http://www.belleville.lib.mi.us/BADLFAQ2010.htm. See you at the polls! The Ypsilanti District Library is also asking for .038 addition to their current millage, see this link for more information. If you live in either of these communities, be heard, and VOTE!
